HOW TO USE THESE HINTS

Below you will find hints to the game "Heist at the Headquarters"  It is advised to try to solve the puzzles on your own, but if you get stuck, these hints will guide you along your way.  Note, clicking on the solution, will give you the final answer (spoilers)  Only use it as a last resort!  A full walkthrough of the game can also be found as a PDF download below.

You and your team have been recruited by the IAO (international Anti-Crime Organization).

Part 1

The location photos

Hint 1 Use the photographs along with the note that starts with "place the locations, then a message will show". See if you can place the locations in order following the clues

Hint 2 The first is not green, yellow or blue. Take a look at the overall coloring/lighting of the photographs and eliminate the green, yellow and blue for the first position. The second has an object that isn’t right. It fits by the sound, but not by the sight. look for an object that if you say it out loud, it seems to fit the location, but visually, it does not The third has a letter that is 5th from the start. What letter is 5th from the start of the alphabet (or 5th from the start in this whole note?) Look for that letter hidden in a photograph. This is the 3rd photo. The forth is the color you’d expect of a heart What color do you expect of a heart? The photo that is overall that color goes in the 4th position. The fifth is skipped in the riddle but implied as it is the image before the sixth. The sixth goes between garments dirty then clean. This doesn't ell you what the 6th location is, but it does tell you what the 5th (dirty garments) and 7th (clean garments) are. The eighth is a way to see someone’s dream (If someone has a dream, what could they do to show this dream to someone else?) The ninth, like the third, contains a “letter” but this “letter” can’t be found in the alphabet. Think of the different uses of the word "letter". The tenth is where the second’s object should be. If you remember, the object from the second image that "wasn't quite right." Where does that object belong? This leaves us with 2 remaining locations that have been unassigned, but one was already eliminated for the first position. This means the other goes in the first position. The remaining location goes in the sixth position. When you've got them in order, check the bak of the photos and see if there is a way to decode a message

Solution The first two lines tell you a message will show if you focus on each image rather than the caption below the image. Next, you’ll put the locations in order. You’ll focus first on the hue of the photographs. The first is not green, yellow or blue. This eliminates the laundromat (green hue), the bakery (yellow hue) and the travel agency (blue hue) as the first location. The second has an object that isn’t right. It fits by the sound, but not by the sight. You’ll see a flower in the bakery. This is a homophone of “flour” which does belong in the bakery (fits by the sound) but the flower does not belong (but not by the sight). The bakery is the second location to place in order. The third has a letter that is 5th from the start. This can be interpreted as 5th from the start of this rhyming riddle or 5th from the start of the alphabet. Either will bring you to the letter “E” which is found as the handle of the coffee cup. The coffee shop is your 3rd location. The forth is the color you’d expect of a heart ( a real heart or a graphic heart are both pink/red) This leads you to the Jeweler (pink/red hue) The fifth is skipped in the riddle but implied as it is the image before the sixth. The sixth goes between garments dirty then clean. The location with dirty garments would be the laundromat. The seventh is also skipped, but it referenced as the location with clean garments. This would be the clothing store. The eighth is a way to see someone’s dream (someone can create their dream in a movie) The ninth, like the third, contains a “letter” but this “letter” can’t be found in the alphabet. This is a homonym where “letter” refers to a written note. It’s in the computer repair shop. The tenth is where the second’s object should be. If you remember, the object from the second image was a flower. It belongs in the florist. This leaves us with 2 remaining locations that have been unassigned: The travel agency and the antique shop. You may recall though that the travel agency was eliminated from the first spot (blue). This means the antique shop takes the first spot while the travel agency is assigned to the only remaining spot: position 6. The final order is Antique shop, bakery, coffee shop, Jeweler, laundromat, travel agency, clothing store, movie theater, computer repair shop, florist. Now, turn over the photos in their spot, and use the symbol decoder to decode the message: WASH AND DRY The location is the laundromat These are the solutions to lines 1 and 2 (line 1: wash and dry, line 2: laundromat)

Phone records, email and numberical decoder

Hint 1 Take a look at the phone and see if you notice anything about the number keys

Hint 2 Some of the printed numbers are rubbed off the keypad- presumably from being pressed many times. Which numbers were pressed the most? If you can figure out the phone number, check the email from management to see if you can decode it further.

Solution The numbers that have been pressed the most are 1, 2, 5, and 7. There is only one phone number that uses only these numbers: Lansing. If you use the included number to letter key, you'll see the phone number spells "sleeveless". Question 3 is "Lansing". 4 is "sleeveless" and 5 is "warm"

Part 2

email

Hint 1 The wording of this email is a bit odd. Is thee any other way to read it?

Hint 2 Instead of reading horizontally left to right, try vertically.

Solution The first letter of each line spells "world domination". This is the solution to #1.

The letter

Hint 1 This letter has strange marks on it. What could they mean?

Hint 2 The marks seem to be covering up some letters.

Solution If you put the letters that are covered up together, you'll get the message: North America. This is the first location ( question 2)

Travel Plans

Hint 1 Read the travel plans carefully and follow the map

Hint 2 What happens if you follow the travel plans from one point to the next using a pen?

Solution The travel plans indicate that you'll be traveling by air, so you can go in straight lines. If you follow the travel plans on the map in straight lines, it will spell the word "red." If you look at the world map, the red continent is South America. This is the answer to #3.

Guitar picture

Hint 1 Try to take a different perspective

Hint 2 Look at the photo from a different angle and see if anything is revealed.

Solution If you tilt the photo at an extreme angle, you'll see the message on the neck of the guitar: "ordinary items". This is the answer to #4.

Part 3

Rooms

Hint 1 The pictures of the rooms were taken at two different times. Do you notice anything different from one time to another?

Hint 2 Look for objects that are in the 4:00 photo that are not in the 2:00 photo. Do this for each location. Which location has the most extra items?

Solution The office has 5 extra items: shoes, a lantern, a radio, a clock, and a badge. The training room has a spoon and a camera. The lab has a hammer, and a bottle. The room with the most items is the office (question 1)

Projector room

Hint 1 There are a lot of words on the projected image. Do you see any that look familar?

Hint 2 Find the words that match the objects you found in the rooms. When you circle the words, what do you notice?

Solution If you circle all the words of the objects you found in the rooms, it will form a picture of a boat (question 2)

Sign on door

Hint 1 The words are hard to make out on this sign. Is there another way to read it?

Hint 2 Try looking at the letters and reading them in a different direction than you normally would

Solution If you start at the end of each line and read each letter in reverse order, you'll see the message: underground tunnel. This is the answer for question 3.

Part 4

Time Sheets

Hint 1 How can you get the items you need when each room is guarded?

Hint 2 It might be worth analyzing the schedules to see if there is any time we'd be able to get the items from the respective rooms.

Solution Each guard takes a break for 10 minutes. Since one room is left unguarded for those ten minutes (the guard who is supposed to be making rounds is not doing his job as stated in the email), you have 10 minutes in each room. The first answer is "ten"

headquarters map and exit code

Hint 1 What order can you go to each room in according to the time cards?

Hint 2 Use the information on the time cards as well as Rick Ruberenstein's schedule and the email from the other guards. Go from one room to the next and check the letters in each room to get the exit code.

Solution Starting at 800, the rooms you'll visit are: laboratory, workshop, lounge, library, control room, training room, and office (since Rick Ruberenstein has left the building at that time.) The first room after the laboratory is the workshop (answer 2). The exit code is: "RETREAT"

Final code:

Hint 1 For the final code, each blank contains 3 numbers. Consider the overall format of this game (how it's structured)

Hint 2 This game is split into part 1, 2, 3 and 4. In each of the parts, there are other parts.

Solution The game is split into 4 parts. Each part has a number of questions, and each answer is a number of letters. The code for each blank is: part, question, letter. If you go through each one, you'll get the message: HEIST PLAN COMPLETE
